 FAQs on Chemical Peels

+ Why should I get a chemical peel?

Chemical Peels help to exfoliate the skin and come in all types of depths. As we age, our skin just doesn't exfoliate like it used to within the 28 day cycle. Helping move exfoliation along will only help to keep your skin in better shape as well as more rejuvenated and stronger. Dead skin and dirt have a tendency to clog pores and cause disruption to the epidermal layer giving it more of a tired and distressed look. By choosing chemical peels, you will be able to turn skin cells over more frequently and help to maintain a more youthful glow. Always pull off Retinol or photo-sensitive medicine at least 5-10 days before your appointment so adverse reactions do not take place.

+ When will I see results?

Once your skin heals, you will see the results. Healing time ranges from 1 day for a refreshing or lunchtime peel to 14 days or longer for a deep peel. To get the results you seek from a refreshing peel or lunchtime peel, you may need to have 3 to 5 peels.

+ What are the different kinds of chemical peels?

Chemical peels at RADIANCE Beauty Lab can be classified into different depths of penetration such as very superficial, superficial, medium or deep/heavy. The depth of the peel will dictate the amount of downtime and correction achieved.

+ What is the post-procedure process like?

Superficial peel:

  • Healing time: 1 to 7 days. Skin will be red. After the redness disappears, scaling may develop, which lasts 3 to 7 days.
  • At-home care: Lotion or cream applied until the skin heals, followed by daily use of sunscreen.
  • When to wear makeup: Usually immediately after the peel, but sometimes the next day.
  • Follow-up visit: No. However, 3 to 5 peels may be necessary to give you the desired results. These peels may be repeated every 2 to 5 weeks.

Medium peel:

  • Healing time: 7 to 14 days. Skin will be red and swollen. Swelling worsens for 48 hours. Eyelids may swell. Blisters can form and break open. Skin crusts and peels off in 7 to 14 days.
  • At-home care: Daily soaks for a specified period. Apply ointment after each soak. Take an antiviral medication for 10 to 14 days. Apply lotion or cream. Total avoidance of the sun until skin heals.
  • When to wear makeup: After 5 to 7 days, you can wear camouflaging makeup.
  • Follow-up visit: Yes. Follow-up visit required after the procedure.
+ How often should I get a chemical peel?

We recommend that patients get a chemical peel every 4-6 weeks, or every 1-2 months. However, if you suffer from acne, there are some peels that can be performed every 2 weeks until achieving the desired results. Most patients begin with a series of 4 or 5 peels to achieve the desired results.

+ How can I maintain the results?

Our esthetician will ensure that you leave RADIANCE Beauty Lab with a personalized plan as a result of our partnership! Some of our best tips include:

  • Use the moisturizer as directed to keep your skin moist and supple. If your skin dries and cracks, it can scar.
  • If your skin burns, itches, or swells, contact your dermatologist. Rubbing or scratching skin treated with a chemical peel can cause an infection.
  • Do not use a tanning bed or other type of indoor tanning. Your skin will not heal properly.
  • After your skin heals, apply sunscreen every day. This will help you maintain results.

 FAQs on Dermaplaning

+ What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. It’s also called microplaning or blading.

Dermaplaning aims to make your skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. It’s also used to remove “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face.

+ Who is a good candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning can be used for any skin type and anyone with:

  • acne scars
  • dull skin
  • dry skin
  • sun-damaged skin
  • fine wrinkles

Dermaplaning is a great stand alone procedure or an add-on procedure at RADIANCE Beauty Lab. It is often coupled with Hydrafacial, Oxygeneo 3-in-1 Facial, Chemical Peels, or Injections.

+ Should I get a chemical peel with Dermaplaning?

Hyperkeratosis is a build up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. By removing this initial layer, a chemical peel is able to penetrate deeper into the dermis resulting in a more effective treatment. The conjunction of dermaplaning and a chemical peel leaves the skin refreshed, rejuvenated, and radiant! Together they promote new skin growth and target problems such as aging, sun spots and environmental damage.

+ Does Dermaplaning hurt?

This treatment is extremely safe when performed by an properly trained skincare professional. There is no more risk to the skin than when you shave your legs. There is also no downtime associated with this procedure.

Dermaplaning is effective by performing a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface. With hair removal such as waxing and threading, most people have the idea that all hair removal is painful, but Dermaplaning is entirely painless. There are risks of cuts on the skin, however they are small and very minor as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks and scrapes are minute and generally heal within 24-48 hours. There is no downtime associated with this procedure!

 FAQs on Celluma LED

+ What is the Celluma LED light panel?

Originally researched and developed by NASA, low-level light therapy is the application of light energy to the body to obtain therapeutic benefits.

+ What benefits does Celluma LED provide?

Low-level light therapy can help treat skin, muscle, joint, and pain conditions. With the uniquely patented design, it can be used anywhere on the body and is ideal for treating various conditions and pains, including but not limited to:

  • Acne
  • Wrinkles
  • Arthritic pain
  • Muscle spasms
  • Muscle and join pains
  • Muscle tissue tension
  • Inflammation
  • Circulation issues
+ How does Celluma LED work?

Discrete, deeply penetrating wavelengths of light energy are absorbed by photoacceptors in the mitochondria of comprised cells to regain and restore vitality naturally. This process increases the production of adnosije triphosphate (ATP)-the fuel that drives all cells. The resulting boost in cellular energy leads to a cascade of metabolic events which can increase micro-circulation and decrease arthritic and joint pain, muscle spasm, and muscle and joint stiffness.

 FAQs on Microneedling

+ What is microneedling?

Microneedling uses fine needles and a specialized medical device to systematically puncture the skin and initiate a healing response. As your skin heals, it will appear smoother, more radiant, and more youthful by building collagen and elastin.

+ What is the post treatment for microneedling?

Downtime is minimal and typically your skin can stay red for 1-3 days. Slight dryness or flaking can occur, but typically bounces back quickly. Makeup can be used 48-72 hours post treatment

+ Am I a good candidate for microneedling?

Microneedling is a great option for those wanting laser skin resurfacing but looking for an option with little to no down time. Microneedling removes the top layer of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin growth, while smoothing the skin, shrinking pores, evening hyper-pigmentation, smoothing fine lines, wrinkles, and more. Best results are seen with three to five treatments, spaced about four weeks apart.

+ How soon and for how long will I see results?

Benefits and results are seen quickly and they continue to improve over time as the skin heals and collagen begins to build. Given proper sun protection and home exfoliation, results can be seen for months. Touch up treatments are recommended every year.

+ Microneedling sounds scary! Does it hurt?

Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment areas, making this a virtually pain-free treatment. Microneedling is a safe skin treatment when performed by a medical aesthetician, nurse, or physician. This treatment is safest being done in a sterile manner in a clinical environment.

+ What should I expect after microneedling?

Most people will experience redness and mild swelling in a similar way as mild sunburn and there may be minimal pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Then you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking but the full effects won't be seen until later.

 FAQs on BBL™ Procedures

+ What is the BBL™ Photofacial technology?

BBL by Sciton is the leading laser on the market to treat hyperpigmentation, rosacea, cherry angiomas, discoloration, age spots, acne scarring, texture and uneven skin tone.

Years of exposure to intrinsic and extrinsic elements can cause these issues in addition to genetics, sun exposure, aging, smoking, illness, medication, stress and much more.

The skin may lose its youthful collagen and elasticity, pores become larger, acne scars become more apparent and unfortunately, there is little we can do in our at home regimens to reverse these changes. BBL™ not only can treat all of the above skin concerns, but it also has a ten year study that proves getting BBL™ by Sciton will reverse the aging gene. BBL™ has longer lasting results and can be very safe and effective for most skin types.

A BBL™ Photofacial is a cutting-edge acne treatment that uses the power of light to comfortably and effectively clear acne without creams or medicine. Broad Band Light is the worlds most powerful IPL (Intense Pulse Light) device delivering light energy deep into your skin to help treat acne, leaving you with clear, healthy, radiant skin.

+ Am I a good candidate for Forever Young BBL™?

A Forever Young BBL™ photofacial is a light-based treatment designed to minimize coloration issues in the skin. Great candidates for Forever Young BBL™ are looking to treat:

  • Rosacea
  • Sun spots
  • Age spots
  • Port wine stains
  • Freckles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Aging Skin

Forever Young BBL™ can be used on the face, neck, chest, hands, shoulders, back, arms, and legs.

+ What is recovery like for Forever Young BBL™?

Recovery is fairly quick. Your face may be a bit pink and warm, similar to the feeling of a sunburn, for a day or 2 after your treatment. It’s super important to stay on top of your sunscreen use during this time. An after care sheet is given to you at the time of your service and post care instructions will be explained for optimal recovery and results from your treatment.

+ How does Forever Clear BBL™ work?

Forever Clear BBL™ uses a unique three-step process not available on other IPL devices:

  • Step 1: Skin is first treated with BLUE BBL light to eliminate acne-causing bacteria at its source, dep down in the pores

  • Step 2: Skin is then treated with YELLOW BBL light to reduce the inflammation and acne-associated redness to give you healthy, luminous skin.

  • Step 3: -For added benefit the skin is then treated with INFRA-RED light in rapid, gentle pulses to initiate the body's natural healing process.

Your RADIANCE partner will develop a personalized plan which may include add-on and follow-up BBL™ treatments, as well as a personalized skincare regimen.

+ How does Forever Young BBL™ work?

BBL works by directing broad band pulses of light at your skin, where it’s absorbed by melanin and blood vessels in deeper layers without harming the outer layers. This causes the pigment to break down and be naturally removed by the body, leaving behind an evenly pigmented surface. The first two passes of the Forever Young BBL™ is very comfortable and minimal pain. These two passes are directed mainly to your aging gene. A Stanford University Study shows that the Forever Young BBL™ treatment will help slow your aging gene and within the proven ten year study, individuals looked more youthful, rejuvenated and tighter over the ten year period then they did before they started. BBL is the gold standard over IPL for it's amazing results, engineering and scientific studies of long-term affect.

+ How many Forever Young BBL™ treatments will I need?

Many people find they get the best results with a series of about 3-4 treatments spaced a month apart. We’ll talk with you about how many sessions you may need when we develop your personalized treatment plan at your consultation.

+ Am I a good candidate for Forever Clear BBL™?

Forever Clear BBL™ is great for both teens and adults for a number of great reasons:

  • It's a non-invasive procedure
  • This procedure has been cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration
  • Forever Clear BBL™ is virtually painless
  • Recovery is easy and there is generally no downtime
  • The procedure is over before you know it! It's quick and simple.
+ Do Forever Young BBL™ treatments hurt?

During an IPL treatment, it’s normal to feel some heat and a slight sting, similar to the feeling of a rubber band snap. The device has a cooling tip, which will soothe your skin during the treatment. The whole thing only takes about 30 minutes.

+ When will I see results for Forever Young BBL™ and how long do they last?

You may notice your dark spots getting darker for about 7 to 10 days before naturally flaking off. At this point, you should notice clearer, more evenly pigmented skin. Your redness, rosacea and/or broken capillaries can be known to dissapear after the first treatment, but some veins are very stubborn. Multiple treatments may be recommended based on the condition of your skin. Your Medical Aesthetician will go over all of that in your first consultation.

The lifespan of BBL™ results depends on things like your exposure to the sun, lifestyle, hormones, and genetics, but results are generally long-lasting. We typically recommend 3-4 treatments a year to keep your skin looking its absolute best and to slow the aging gene down. In a Stanford Study on the Sciton Forever Young BBL™ laser, it was scientifically proven to show that when starting a regimen of 3 to 4 BBL™ treatments a year, you will look better in ten years than you do at the time of starting your treatment.

 FAQs on BOTOX®

+ How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® is a neurotoxin (onabotulinumtoxinA). When expertly injected, they stop specific muscles from contracting, relaxing the movements in your face that can lead to wrinkles over time. Expressions such as frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting create lines in your skin that become etched more and more deeply in over time. By preventing these expressions, neurotoxins release the skin and allow it to stay gorgeously uninterrupted by unwanted wrinkles and lines.

+ What is a BOTOX® treatment like?

BOTOX® appointments are famously quick (usually 15 to 30 minutes) and comfortable (just a few tiny pinches). After taking a close look at your face and talking through your goals with you, we use a very fine needle to carefully inject the product. There’s very little recovery time. In fact, you should be able to return to your usual activities right away.

+ What are the differences between BOTOX®, Dysport, & XEOMIN?

BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® achieve very similar results, but their formulations are a little different. The manufacturing process for Dysport® varies slightly from BOTOX®. XEOMIN® only contains a single “naked” ingredient, whereas BOTOX® contains extra proteins. This means some people who develop a resistance to BOTOX® may get better results with XEOMIN®.

+ When will I see BOTOX® results?

You may start seeing results after 3 to 5 days, but you’ll get the full effect around 14 days. XEOMIN® may take 1 or 2 days longer to take effect.

+ How safe is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® has an outstanding safety record, which is part of why it’s so popular across the country. With any injectable treatment, of course, it’s important to work with a trained professional who has excellent knowledge of facial anatomy. This will greatly lower your risk of unwanted effects such as droopiness or that infamous “frozen” look.

BOTOX® is offered at RADIANCE Skin Spa, but by appointment only. Dr. Nicole O'Neal is the Medical Director overseeing RADIANCE Skin Spa and events and/or specific treatment days are offered but you must contact us specifically for an appointment.

+ Where can BOTOX® be used?

BOTOX® is our go-to treatment for lots of common aging concerns, including:

  • Forehead lines
  • Drooping brows
  • Glabellar or “frown” lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Nasalis or “bunny” lines
  • Turned-in upper lip (“lip flip”)
  • Gummy smile
  • Dimpled chin
  • Overdeveloped masseter muscle
  • Platysmal bands
+ How long does BOTOX® last?

Results typically last between 3 and 4 months. Our clients often find that with 3 treatments a year, they’re able to keep their skin looking smooth and youthful 24/7.

Plus, BOTOX® can have an ongoing effect over time. Believe it or not, some clients in their early 30s are now discovering that a little BOTOX® goes a long way when it comes to preventing future wrinkles
